22 Delicious Gluten-Free Curries!

We’d hate for anyone to miss out on a delicious Rafi’s Spicebox curry night: so here’s our guide to the ultimate Indian meal experience, without the gluten!

We currently have 22 main Curry Packs available (check out the list below) which can be made without gluten-containing ingredients*. If that’s not enough, all of our side dishes can be made gluten-free, or are naturally gluten-free, including our bhajia packs - wowee!

The only ingredient containing gluten in these packs is the fried onions. These are coated in wheat flour and fried, therefore unsuitable for a gluten-sensitive diet. We recommend when cooking your gluten-free curry pack, to first fry off one fresh large onion until golden brown to give a good depth of flavour to your curry. Taking the time to cook the onion really makes a difference to the finished dish.

No Indian meal would be complete without a selection of pickles, chutneys and breads - but don’t worry, we’ve got you covered there too. A large percentage of our pickles and chutneys are made without gluten-containing ingredients, a few of our favourites include: Geeta’s Premium Mango chutney, which is made to an old family recipe. It uses Indian mangoes and whole spices which will add a great taste to any curry. If you prefer a pickle then we recommend trying Priya’s Lime Pickle . This is a traditional product with strong flavours to give a wonderful tangy bite. Both of these give a real taste of India to your meal.

When it comes to breads, although slightly trickier, we do have an option. Lee’s Akki Roti recipe which he brought back from his Indian sabbatical is completely gluten-free and perfect for stuffing with your favourite curry. It’s made using rice flour and resembles a sort of pancake or chapati, yet lighter. Here’s a link to the recipe.

If you’re not up to making your own bread, our other suggestion, though not technically a bread, would be papadums. They’re simple enough to make, just hold them over a flame for a few seconds or stick them in the microwave for the perfect, crunchy, gluten-free addition to your evening.
