Ma’s Paretal Curry Pack
Cook Rafi’s exclusive Ma’s Paretal Curry Pack that evokes memories of her home cooking.
A Malay and South Indian fusion, flavoured with coconut, curry leaves and fennel. Our recipe creates a dry, rich sauce which gets richer the longer you cook it.
The Ma’s Paretal was one of the original curries on the menu and is now one of our most popular Curry Packs. The Paretal curry features in many of Rafi’s cookbooks where she simply refers to it as a ‘dry meat curry’.
The recipe for the Ma’s Paretal Curry Pack is based on a recipe from Rafi’s Mother-in-law. Rafi's in-laws were originally from Kerala, India, but they emigrated to Malaysia in the 1930s. From this heritage, the Ma’s Paretal was born! This Spice Mix embodies Rafi’s home cooking with simple spices that create a comforting curry.
Try it with: lamb or roast aubergine and red pepper.

Tried first pack this week. Ma Paretal mild mix and vegetable pilau.
I was so impressed how easy it was and so tasty.
My children, 9 and 14 enjoyed it although the mild was pretty spicy. I like a Madras so quite a good judge of spice and must say it was more spicy than a mild should probably be.
However, I'm trying to get them to eat a bit more spice, flavour and they did both eat it.
So very impressed and I thoroughly enjoyed it.
Looking forward to trying more.
The pilau I cooked with no added veg but did fry and then steamed in same amount of recommended water and it cooked great.
Will definitely get that again also.
Coincidently, when i looked up Rafi's previous cookbooks I got blown away by the front cover of 'A taste of India '. Realising that this book my Dad had back in late 90s maybe (?). Got hit by the nostalgia and my Dad wowing us with his 'authentic ' curries back in the day.
Will be a regular of Raffi's
something different from the norm and a great addition to the usual range of restaurant menu fare
This curry is up there with the best again so easy to make but so delicious you can not get this curry from a take away highly recommend it
Delicious recipe and so easy to make. This curry has a great depth of flavour and is always a popular choice in my kitchen.
But I prefer to buy the larger pack 4-6. You can then freeze some for later. My absolute favourite.
