Broccoli Upkari Spice Mix

Create a simple stir fry at home with Rafi’s Broccoli Upkari Pack. This is a really easy way of rustling up a vegetable recipe that goes well with Rafi’s curry.

Our Upkari Pack uses mustard and cumin seeds adding savoury notes to this recipe, which is then complemented with the sweetness of desiccated coconut and earthy turmeric. The nutty, browned coconut works well with the mild bitterness and subtle sweetness of the broccoli.

It can be served alongside any of our Curry Packs and provides a nice contrast to richer recipes like the Moghlai or Pasanda.

Upkari is a popular Konkani recipe made by the people from coastal Karnataka and parts of Goa. Coconuts are abundant in this region and are a staple ingredient in many recipes.

Rafi’s son, Lee, brought a version of this recipe back from his travels to India and it was first featured in our cookbook. It was then developed into an easy-to-use Rafi’s Spice Mix and is now one of the most-loved Side recipes on the menu!
