Mulligatanni Curry Pack
Cook Rafi’s version of this popular curry at home in under 30 minutes.
Rafi’s Mulligatanni (also known as Mulligatawny) creates a peppery, coconut sauce that is full of aromatic flavours.
Mulligatanni (Mulliga = pepper, tanni = water) began life as Rasam, a peppery digestive drink/thin soup in South India. This developed into the favourite 'Raj' soup which inspired Rafi's Mulligatanni curry.
Rafi refers to the Mulligatanni as an Anglo-Indian stew in her cooking books. She would often add chicken and prawns to this curry and serve it to her family for a comforting meal on winter nights in Suffolk.
Try it with: chicken, white fish or roast squash.

- Empty the contents of the pack into a pan with a 400ml tin of coconut milk and a 400g tin of chopped tomatoes. Simmer for 5 minutes.
- Add 1kg of ingredients of your choice. Mix well, cover, and gently cook.
- Add 1 tsp sugar and lemon juice until fairly tangy. Simmer for 5 minutes.
- Adjust salt and garnish with coriander leaves.

- Empty the pack into a pan with 200g (1/2 tin) chopped tomatoes and 200ml (1/2 tin) coconut milk.
- Simmer for 5 minutes. Add 500g ingredients of your choice.
- Mix well and gently cook. Add 1/2 tsp sugar and lemon juice until fairly tangy.
- Simmer for 5 minutes.
- Adjust salt and garnish with coriander leaves.

Superb curry, the lemon/lime juice gives it a lovely tang.
