Kofta (Spiced Meatballs)

Serves:

Introduction

These meatballs are great served in a wrap with Carrot Salad or a drizzle of yoghurt, pomegranate seeds and some fresh mint. They also go deliciously in any curry sauce, try adding them in with the eggs in the Egg Curry Recipe

Ingredients

 Serves 4

500g minced beef/lamb
2 cloves of garlic (finely grated)
2cm piece of ginger (finely grated)
2 green chillies (very finely sliced)
1 onion (finely chopped)
Fresh coriander (chopped)
1 egg
1 potato (grated)
1/2 tsp Turmeric
2 tsp Garam Masala
Pinch of salt

Instructions

  1. Add all of the ingredients to a mixing bowl. Using your hands, squish everything together for 2-3 minutes, until fully combined.
  2. Shape the mixture into balls (about the size of golf balls), put them on a plate and leave them to rest in the fridge for 30 minutes.
  3. The koftas can then be cooked by shallow frying, for 10-15 minutes or roasted in the oven, with a drizzle of oil, for about 25 minutes, at gas mark 7/220°C.

The Rafi's Spicebox Cookbook

In 2016, we released the Rafi’s Spicebox Cookbook with recipes all based on Indian flavours and concepts. Some of them have evolved from Rafi’s original recipes and others from our team's travel to India and beyond. This book was written to inspire you to cook the best food that you can. If we can encourage you to enjoy the whole process of cooking these dishes and sharing them with family or friends, our work is done. We’re very proud of these dishes, and hope to hear what you’ve done with them in your own kitchen!
