This aromatic ingredient belongs to the ginger family. Turmeric Powder is often known for its medicinal properties as well as its ability to turn food (and clothes) yellow.

Turmeric is also considered a very sacred article in all religious and social ceremonies in India.

A half teaspoon of ground turmeric is usually plenty for seasoning bean and rice dishes, soups, sauces and stews. Has a rich, golden yellow hue. It imparts not only colour, but a rounded, savoury flavour to dishes.
