Six more salad ideas: Building a balanced Indian meal

Indian salads are an integral part of the meal. They are bursting with flavour and colour - not to mention texture - and, at Rafi’s Spicebox, we believe that if you try one of our gorgeous recipes, you will be as hooked as we are!

Just today the York Shop was filled the mouth-watering scent of Rafi's Carrot Salad; we used Yorkshire carrots (obviously the best of Daucus Carota, being from God’s own county) and the staff had to restrain themselves from eating the lot, "it were that gorgeous"; and at £1 a packet, suited to the most Yorkshire of wallets.

The only thing that could have improved it would have been the presence of Lee's Red Cabbage Slaw, the juxtaposition of the bright orange carrots with the vibrant red is a feast for the eyes as well as the mouth.

As the summer approaches, and salad becomes a meal rather than a side dish, why not fill up on the Cucumber, Moong Dhal and Coconut Salad? This dish was only introduced last summer, but with its light and nutty notes it makes a healthy and satisfying lunch.

Want something a bit more substantial? Our twist on a classic, Chana Masala with Pomegranate is warming, filling, and very pretty. An easy dish to whip up when you want to impress friends and family as it makes a great centrepiece for the table.

If you are tempted to stray from Indian Cuisine (no judgement: you do you, boo) then may I suggest a Mexican inspired Guacamole Salad for the delight of your palate. This tangy little snack has citrus and peppery notes that would go beautifully Vegetable Skewers or how about some Chilli Con Carne made with Chipotle Chillies and Keralan Single Origin Chocolate? I honestly can’t think of anything nicer to share with friends round a campfire!

If you want to stay in Asia, but fancy a bit of Thai food, then we’ve got you covered there too: here’s some Top Tips for Thai Salad, just for you.

So don’t be afraid to venture past the plate of curry and explore a world of vegetables and fruit. We promise that you won’t be disappointed!
