Made by carefully harvesting crocus flower stigmas by hand, saffron threads are a treat to use in the kitchen, giving a deep orange colour and a rich aroma to many sweet and savoury dishes. Try dissolving a small amount of saffron in milk and stirring it into cooked rice for a wonderful yellow and white rice dish.
